Early Life / Festus Keyamo Biography
Festus Keyamo was born on January 21, 1970, at Ughelli, a town located in Delta State, southern part of Nigeria.
However, his parents Mr Matthias and Mrs Caroline hails from Effurum, a small city in Delta state. He grew up in a middle class family with his siblings.
Keyamo had his primary education at Model Primary School and secondary education at Government College, Ughelli, where he obtained the West African School Certificate in 1986.
Later, he attended Ambrose Alli University located at Ekpoma, in Edo State. In 1992, he received a Bachelor of Law degree and was called to the Nigerian bar in December 1993.
Festus Keyamo Legal Career
Immediately after he was called to the Nigerian bar, Keyamo started his career in 1993 at Gani Fawehinmi’s Chamber in Lagos State.
After spending two years at Gani Fawehinmi’s chambers, he left to establish Festus Keyamo Chambers.
As a legal practitioner, he was counsel to the leader of the Niger-Delta Peoples’ Volunteer Force, Mujahid Dokubo-Asari during his trial for treasonable felony.
Also, he lead counsel in the treason trial of Ralph Uwazuruike, the leader of the Movement For The Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB).
Another of his notable counsel was the case between Apostle Suleman Johnson and Stephanie Otobo, a stripper and singer who accused the former of false marriage promises by the latter.
In 2008, Keyamo took the Federal Government of Nigeria to court over its illegal appointment of service chiefs.
Political Appointments
Festus Keyamo was the former Nigeria’s Minster of State for Niger up.
However, he was later redeploy as Ministry of Labour and Employment by President Mahammadu Buhari barely a month after his initial appointment.
In 2023, Keyamo became a spokesman for the campaign of presidential candidate Bola Tinubu. This came few years after he sued Lagos Assembly for absolving Tinubu of forgery.

Festus Keyamo’s marriage to his wife Mrs Isioma Irene was on May 15, 2004 in Benin City, Edo state.
The couple had two children, Nicole and Festus Keyamo Jnr.
Unfortunately, the Union lasted six years before the couple got divorce.
Awards/ Recognition
The legal practitioners’ privileges committee, recognize Keyamo as one of the outstanding Nigerian lawyers to be awarded the rank of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2017.
Also, the United States Global Leadership council awarded him with the Global Human Rights award in Washington.
Controversies
Festus Keyamo is one of the most controversial Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
In 2019, he was accuse of paying Nigerian singer Charly Boy money to campaign for them APC candidate President Muhammadu Buhari but he denied it.
Nigerian social media users trend hashtag #ArrestFestusKeyamo after he alleged that Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi is planning to fake his assassination attempt.
The statement sparked outrage and backlash from Nigerians as they call on the police to arrest Festus Keyamo.
