Mr Ibu Biography

Born on 17 October 1961, Charles Ikechukwu Okafor, popularly called Mr Ibu is a Nigerian actor and comedian.

He hails from Umunekwu village in Eziokwe in Nkanu West Local government,  Enugu State, Nigeria.

After his father’s death, Mr Ibu moved to Sapele to stay with his elder brother. There, he engaged in different menial jobs to sponsor himself through secondary school.

He worked as a hairstylist before venturing  into photography. Mr Ibu also worked in a company that produces crates.

After secondary school, Mr Ibu got admission  into the College of Education, Yola, but later dropped out due to financial difficulties.

Later, he enrolled in the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) where he started his acting career.

Mr Ibu  had his primary school education in the village but later relocated to Delta State for his secondary school.

Later, he got admission College of Education at Yola but dropout due to financial challenges.

However, he went to Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) where he studied Mass Communication after saving money from doing menial jobs.

Career

Mr Ibu started his acting career in 1978 after he joined Nigerian Movie Industry (Nollywood)

His debut movie was Rolling Stone which he earned N5,000 because then actors where paid poorly.

Then, he was given unpopular roles in movies and films from directors and producers as an upcoming actor.

Few years later, Mr Ibu started getting leading roles in several films, comedic movies and TV shows.

In 2004, Mr Ibu was featured in blockbuster movie “Mr Ibu” a film which later gave him  his career breakthrough.

The movie “Mr Ibu” which he was acted alongside Osita Iheme (PawPaw) won him the ‘Best Comic Actor’ at Africa Movie Academy Awards.
