Born and raised in Bergville, KwaZulu-Natal, Siyabonga Nene professional called as Big Zulu is a South African Rapper, Songwriter and actor.
As a child, Big Zulu grew up listening to Maskandi and Isichathamiya music, influenced by Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
The rapper’s parents were not financially buoyant, which made him to start hustling at an early age. After he’s high school, he started off as a taxi driver in other to survive.
Speaking of his major influence in music, the rapper says he was influenced by Maskandi and Scathamiya.

Career of Big Zulu
The rapper quit his job as a taxi driver to focus on his music after he developing great love in Inkabi rap music.
In 2009, Big Zulu started writing songs and performing. He earned the title “King of Rap” in a rap battle competition held by “Back to the City.”
The title brought him in to the limelight in the music industry. However, it took him 5 years later to release his debut single “Donsa Nkabi”, a song released in 2016.
After many years as an independent artist, Big Zulu signed a record label deal with Universal Music Records in 2015.
In July 2018, he released his debut album album Ushun Wenkabi in July 2018, with singles including “Ang’mazi umama” and “Home” which topped serval music charts and platforms.
His second studio album Ungqongqoshe Wongqongqoshe was released in 2019. The album featured Ab Crazy, Mnqobi Yazo, Caspper Nyovest, Musiholiq and Truhitz.
The album was certified gold by the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) due to its numerous success.
On November 20, 2020, he released his single “Mali Eningi” featuring Intaba Yase Dubai & Ricky Rick as the album’s lead single. The song debuted number 2 on Channel 0 top 30 charts and was certified double platinum.
On January 2021, he announced the working on his third studio album. Following the announcement, he released a single “Inhlupheko” featuring Mduduzi Ncube on March same year.
The song peaked at number one on the South African iTunes charts and reach number 4 on Shazam charts. On 3 July 2021, he announced a new single titled “Umuzi eSandton”.
He released a single “iVolovolo” featuring Xowla on February 2022. The song debuted number one in South Africa.
Big Zulu has earned several music nominations and awards. He was nominated at the South African Music Award (SAMA) for Best Hip Hop Album in 2019.
Meanwhile in the same year, the album Ushun Wenkabi, was nominated for Best Male Artist of the Year and Album of the Year at the South African Hip Hop Awards.
Zulu won seven awards includes; Album of the Year, Song of the Year “Mali Eningi”, Best Music Video, Best Male and Ubuntu Activism Award, Best Collaboration, and Best Digital Sales.

South African rapper Big Zulu is in a relationship with Lebogang Makenete. The couple has a daughter together.
However, he is a father to two children. His son, Shaka was born by Bulelwa Nazo. In 2018, he was arrested in Gauteng for allegedly assaulting the mother of one of his children.
