Alex Otti Biography — Alex Otti is (born 18 February 1965) is a Nigerian economist, banker, investor, philanthropist and politician.

He is the Governor-Elect of Abia State under the Labour Party. He polled 175, 467 to defeat his political rival Okey Ahiwe of the People’s Democratic Party who got 88,529.

Alex Otti Biography

Alex Otti Biography Born to the family of the late Pastor and Mrs. Lazarus Weze Otti, Alex Otti is the Governor-Elect of Abia State under Labour Party.

He hails from Umuru, Umuehim village in Ehi Na Uguru Ancient Kingdom, Isiala Ngwa South LGA, Abia State, Eastern Nigeria.

For his secondary school education, Otti attended Ngwa High School, Aba and Technical School, Okpuala Ngwa were he obtained his West Africa Examination Council ( WAEC) certificate. During his High school days, Otti graduated as in his class.

Later, he proceeded to University of Port Harcourt for his undergraduate studies. Alex Otti graduated with a First Class Degree in economics in 1988.

In 1994, he obtained his earned an Masters Degree from University of Lagos. Also Otti  attended various international courses in renown institutions including Executive Development Programmes of the Columbia Business and Stanford Business School and Wharton Business School.

Following his impressive achievements and sucess over the years, Alex Otti was conferred an honorary doctorate degree by Babcock University, University of Port Harcourt and University of Nigeria Nssuka respectively.

Career

After his university education, Alex Otti began his banking career in 1989. Firstly, he worked in the operational unit of the Nigerian International Bank, a subsidiary of Citibank New York.

Thereafter, he worked at Nigerian Intercontinental Bank where he worked at the treasury and financial services unit as well as the corporate banking division. In 1992,  he joined Societe Bancaire Nigeria Limited (Merchant Bankers), where he rose to the position of a senior manager.

Later, he moved to United Bank of Africa (UBA) as the manager overseeing the bank’s corporate banking sector for the entire South Division. In May 2001, he joined First Bank of Nigeria, PLC as assistant general manager in May 2001.

During his time at UBA, Otti was tasked with the responsibility of growing the oil and gas business for the bank. While at First Bank, he was in charge of growing the Energy Sector for the bank.

In 2004, he got promoted as the deputy general manager. A year later, Alex Otti got appointed Executive Director, commercial banking. Following his sucess in various commercial banks in Nigeria, Otti in March 2011, he moved to Diamond Bank as group managing director/ chief executive officer.

After his retirement on October 24, 2014, Otti took Uzoma Dozie became the new CEO and  General Manager Director.

Political Career

Following  his retirement from banking institution, Otti became the gubernatorial candidate of Abia State on the platform of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA)

However he lost the election to People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Okezie Ikpeazu. This came after Supreme Court of Nigeria reversed the verdict of the Court of Appeal and affirmed the election of Ikpeazu as Governor in 2016.

Following his popularity at the 2015 gubernatorial election, Alex Otti contested again in March 11, 2023 but this time, under the platform of Labour Party.

On March 22, he was declared winner of the Abia State gubernatorial election by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
