Laura Tyla Seethal (born on 30 January 2002) popularly known as Tyla is a South African singer, entertainer, performer and songwriter.

She was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa by her parents. Tyla is from a multiracial family  with Indian, Zulu and  Mauritian roots. Tyla is 21 years old.

Growing up, Tyla loved singing and dancing. She started by posting her original works and covers on social media. Sometimes, she sends some of her songs to producers and public figures in the South African music industry

Later , she was discovered by her first manager, Garth von Glehn, who organized her first recording sessions.

Education

Tyla attended Edenglen High School in 2019 and was the head of culture in that year. After high school, she studied Mining Engineering before deciding to focus  on her music career.

Music Career

Tyla debut single “Getting Late” featuring production from Kooldrink, was release in 2019 after high school. Following the success of the song, the music video nominated at the South African Music Awards in 2022 for Music Video of the Year.

She released the single “Girl Next Door”, featuring Nigerian singer Ayra Starr in May 2023.

In July 2023, she released “Water” which became a global hit song. Following her viral dance challenge on TikTok, the song went viral earning her the first South African in 55 years to enter US Billboard Hot 100.

Her song “Water” is nominated for Best African Music  Performance at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards in February 2024.

On November 2023, she released Water Remix with United States rapper Travis Scott in anticipation for her debut self titled debut album “Tyla” coming out in 2024.
