Born in 1983, Sat Bae whose real name is Nusret Gökçe was born in Erzurum, to a Kurdish family.

Salt Bae’s family’s financial problems forced him to leave school at the age of 12 in order to work as a butcher’s apprentice in the Kadikoy district of Istanbul.

His father, Faik, was a mineworker who was struggling to raise his Salt Bae and his siblings.

Salt Bae owns Nusr-Et, a luxury steak house with  branches in Turkey, Greece, the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.

Career

During the beginning of his career, Salt Bae traveled to several countries where he worked for free in order to gain experience.

After his return to Turkey, Salt Bae opened his first restaurant in Istanbul in 2010. Later, he opened a Dubai restaurant in 2014 which became popular.

He became widely known as Salt Bae after his video went viral through a on social media. Memes of him cutting meat and sprinkling salt got posted by internet users.

The posts got millions of views and likes on Instagram and Twitter after which he was nicknamed Salt Bae because  of his unique way of sprinkling salt.

Also due to his uniqueness and popularity, Salt Bae has served celebrities and politicians from around the world.

Salt Bae FIFA World Cup Controversies

On December 18, Turkish chef Salt Bae became a topic of controversy. This happened after he was seen touching FIFA World Cup trophy won by Argentina.

His presence on the field at the Ludwig Stadium got highly criticized by observers. Also, players like Lionel Messi we’re not happy with the situation.

FIFA has released a statement due to the controversy. The statement reads;

“Following a review, Fifa has been establishing how individuals gained undue access to the pitch after the closing ceremony at Lusail stadium on 18 December. The appropriate internal action will be taken.”

Meanwhile, Salt Bae is yet to respond to the outrage. In fact, he posted pictures of him posing with the trophy on his social media page.
