Bathabile Dlamini was born in Nquthu, KwaZulu-Natal on September 10, 1962. She grew up in Nkandla, Matshensikazi.

She graduated from University of Zululand with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Studies. Bathabile Dlamini began her political career at an early age.

Dlamini became one of the founder members of Imbali Youth Organization in 1983. The organization was one of the affiliates of the UDF.

Also, the Imbali Youth Organization worked with the South African Students Congress and Imbali Civic Organization.

She participated in student politics and community politics while in the university. The zeal to become a political leader, led to her joining the South African National Students Congress in 1985.

Dlamini began her political career after she became part of the interim leadership program in 1991. The interim was formed to build the African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) structures in the Kwa-Zulu Natal (former Natal Midlands region).

Later, she got  elected to the first Regional Executive Committee of the ANCWL. Also, She served as  as Regional Secretary in 1992-1993.

In 1993, she was further elected as the Deputy Secretary General of the ANCWL. Later she got elected as the Secretary General of organization in 1998 and served two terms until 2008.

Furthermore, Bathabile  Dlamini has also worked as a social worker. She worked for an organization called Pietermaritzburg Cripples Association.

Dlamini became a member of the parliament in 2001. She got elected to the National Executive Committee of the African National Congress.

In 2008 she worked as a member of the ANC in the office of the president as sectoral work coordinator. She is also a member of the National Executive Committee of the ANCWL.

Also, she was appointed the Minister of Social Development in  November 2010. Before the ,she was the Deputy Minister of Social Development between May 2009- October 2010.

In 2015, she became the present of ANC Women’s League. She is the current Minister responsible for women under the presidency.
