Age

Major General Attahiru was born on August 10th August 1966 in Doka, Kaduna North Local Government Area, Kaduna State.

Educational Background

He studied at the Armed Firces Command and Staff College, Jaji where he obtained his college certificate. He joined the Nigerian Army in 1984.

After his college year, he went to the Nigerian Defence Academy and the Nigerian Army School of Infantry.

On December 1986, he was commissioned in to the rank of a second Lieutenant. He got his Masters in Strategic Management and Policy Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy.

He also obtained a Masters degree in Human Resource Management and development from Salford university, Uk.

Military Career

During the course of his career, General Attahiru held many appointments in the military.

He was one of the Commanding Officer 146 Battalion Nigerian Army (Operation HARMONY IV) in the Bakassi Peninsula, Commander 13 Brigade Nigerian Army (Operation PULO SHIELD), General Officer Commanding 82 Division Nigerian Army.

Also, he was the Deputy Director Military Secretary 2 at the AHQ MS (A) and one-time Director Army Public Relations and Spokesperson of the Nigerian Army.

In the Nigerian Defence Academy, he was an Instructor at the Depot Nigerian Army. He was also an Operation Officer and later Company Commander in NIBATT 19 ECOMOG Operations in Liberia.

On February 21st, he became the 21st Chief of Army Staff of the Nigerian Army.

Death

On 21st May 2021, four months after his appointment, Nigerian Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attahiru, died in an air crash.

He died at the age of 54, alongside some military personnels and aides during an official trip to Kaduna state.
